All About Him
GKOL's newest imposingly hairy scrawny indie kid, Shotgunmichael, a.k.a. James Greene, hosts the Asylum, 3 hours of indie, rock, emo, mock-ups and knob gags, and if you're really lucky, a nice competition every now and then. Shotgunmichael is currently at the grand old age of 17 (exceeding the average mental age of the internet by 16 years), and lives in a 'burb of London which is famous for absolutely sod-all. Contrary to mass media portrayals, he is not a faux gangsta, he does not worship Nike (the brand, not the goddess), and he does not rattle when he walks from the sheer weight of knives hidden in his pockets. Because he sheathes them properly. Shotgun is half-Irish, half-English - which means he doesn't complain about the crap weather, he just gets drunk over it - and spent 3 years in Oregon a way back. Just like Pamela Anderson and herpes, he's never completely gotten rid of the accent - make him say "Ewww!" and gasp in befuddlement. As well as the obligatory orgasm-esque love of KoL required to DJ on GKOL, Shotgun is an avid Dr. Who fanboy, an Arsenal (real football) and Phillies fan, and one of only 7 people in England who can actually follow a baseball game. Oh, and he hasn't been able to stop squealing "Ooooooohhhhhlookhowcuteitis!" ever since Spore came out. Gay? No. Why do you ask?
"The Asylum"
Shotgunmichael hosts "The Asylum" on GKOL. It is a curious little melange - rock, indie and emo rub shoulders with the occasional bit of soul or reggae, and oddities from the Intawebz, and his psuedo-American/English/Irish murmurings take you through it all, throwing in the occasional competition if he can tear himself away from air guitar. Shotgun hereby solemnly swears on Jimi Hendrix's first ever guitar that he will never play RnB, rap, or any gangster crap. If he does, his kid sister probably snuck in while he was dropping a rectum bomb on the toilet bowl insurgents and plugged her iPod in.
Requests and Donations
Of course, this being the Asylum, music and competitions aren't everything. Oh, wait, yes, they are. The Asylum takes requests at all times - although the OCD in Shotgun insists on only playing so many a show, because he's a control freak, and as such he generally has planned playlists at least two or three shows ahead. During the show, drop him a PM or a K-mail if you're feeling formal to check if he's got the track you want played. If he doesn't have it, or if you want to get a request in early, e-mail him the track (mp3 only please) at sonofasamurai@hotmail.co.uk, and he'll do his damnedest to get your track on in the next show.
